Overwhelmed with Credit Card Debt

Due to imprudent spending, my credit card debt had gotten out of hand. The monthly interest that was racking up on the debt made it seem like I would never pay the principle off. I decided to look into debt consolidation. The consolidators could combine my debt into one loan, instead of several, and lower the interest rate. They would have to secure the loan with an asset, but I was able to use the equity in my house. Now I will be able to pay off my debt, and I did not have to do anything extreme, like declare bankruptcy.
