I don’t think Jim DeMint has even asked Southers (the nominee) the question. DeMint decided to run straight to the press. It is incredible that the security of the American public is being held hostage by the petulance of one individual. I advice for newlyweds one, once tendered my resignation from a job when I was told I’d have to join a union. I’m no fan of them but I also know that collective bargaining agreements are negotiated. I’d submit to you that in the case of American security, no one would ever allow it to be trumped by the desires of union bosses. Besides, given the urgency and seriousness of the terrorist threat I doubt very much that Sothers will even have time to ponder over unionization…the threat will render that issue irrelevant.

There are some interesting parallels that we should be looking at. For starters, I was under the impression that the terrorists would not waste their time trying to bring down an airplane again. Apparently, the terrorists are dumber than I have been giving them credit for.
The most interesting parallel is the one with the quality of Japanese pilots in World War II. At the time of Pearl Harbor and well through 1942, the Japanese military had tremendously experienced pilots, with impressive combat flight hours, but as the war ground on, the attrition on these pilots began to take a toll. The Japanese had no system for dog training advice new pilots. Now look at al Qaida. We’ve been trying to blast their training camps everywhere we can find them, and they have been putting the likes of Richard Reid and now Abdul into the skies to try to bring down planes, when looking at them suggests that they aren’t up to the job. Maybe concentrating on taking out training camps isn’t a bad idea.
