Prostate cancer may have slow growth but cure it quickly
August 30th, 2009
Prostate cancer or the abnormal growth of the cells in a male’s prostate gland which is located just below the bladder can be treated in a variety of ways. Prostate cancer is a curable illness through methods of medication or even prostate Surgery. Prostate treatment can also include radiation.
The removal of the prostate gland and any other cancerous lymph nodes is called prostate Surgery. As with any surgery there is a chance of complications or side effects. Performing a nerve-sparing surgery is an attempt to save the nerves needed . Prostate Surgery can also involve curing this illness without the actual removal of the gland through cryosurgery, which freezes the gland and in turn kills the cancer.
One of the other methods of prostate treatment, radiation, is the use of X-rays to destroy the cancerous cells. This procedure could be performed internally or externally. External radiation is a prostate cancer treatment given over a span of several weeks whereas internal radiation is a one time injection of radioactive seeds into the prostate gland.
There are two methods of medication use in prostate cancer treatment. The use of hormone therapy does not cure the cancer but can assist in the shrinking of it and essentially slow down the spread. Chemotherapy is a powerful prostate treatment of either taking pills or receiving injections to destroy the cancer cells of the gland.
prostate cancer treatment has the best results when it is sought after early on in the illness.
