Amazon To Provide Free Kindles?

February 23rd, 2010

Rumours abound that Amazon is considering providing free amazon kindle e-book readers to subscribers to Amazon Prime – the premium delivery service. Amazon Prime costs $ 79 per year and allows members to get fast delivery of their Amazon goods without paying any extra charges over and above their yearly membership fee. The theory is that, by a combination of increased Prime membership and increased Kindle book sales, Amazon would be able to recoup the cost of the Kindle device itself. It does seem like a fanciful notion – but if Amazon could get the production price of the Kindle low enough, start selling Kindle books at a profit, and make enough money from Amazon Prime memberships, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
