Something You Didn’t Know: How a Green Screen Works

November 14th, 2009

Technology can be both innovative and intuitive.  You can often find yourself wondering why you didn’t think of that on your own.  I have to say, though, that I did not have that kind of reaction when I found out about how a green screen works in creating realistic illusions and images.  The concept is basic.  You take a picture of yourself in front of a green screen, get rid of the screen in the image using software, and fill the space with another picture.  Meteorologists use this technique all the time, apparently.  What process someone went through to invent it I can’t even begin to imagine.
